Mylo Kaye, my battle with demons and the path to happiness.

You hear stories of how exciting, liberating and hard working University is. You get told that the many parties and mingling with like-minded people will be ‘the best time of your life’. When I think back to back to the start of 2009, when I started a web development course at Manchester Metropolitan University, I remember the good times, the parties, sharing a pizza with my friend who I moved to Manchester with. I had a great time at University. That’s what I tell people, that’s what I say when I get asked. My life at University was a whole lot darker. Walking into the student counselling service and sitting down on cold hard chairs I remember looking at posters on the wall with the message, “Talk to someone”. It wasn’t until that day I was able to open up to someone, being able to offload all my problems was just the beginning. 4th November 2008 I got the call, the call that everyone dreads. I immediately hung up after hearing the news that my Uncle had died, my world became cold and dark on hearing from my Mum that my uncle had died, I stopped still in the street

Mylo Kaye Dreamr March 2017

In March, Dreamr CEO Mylo Kaye visited San Francisco on the very first flight from Manchester. The visit saw him visit tech giants, Salesforce and LinkedIn. We find out what the trip has achieved and why it’s beneficial to fly direct from Manchester. What do you think the trip has achieved? What do you think the trip has achieved? Connecting Manchester to San Francisco will open up greater opportunities for our region and help stimulate the North through talent, investment and knowledge transfer. Tech giants of Silicon Valley will now see how serious Manchester is in opening up the north of England and we’re poised to take advantage of this direct route to greater diversify our region’s digital economy. How do you think Silicon Valley views the North of England tech scene? Has the trip made a difference? I have met with some of San Francisco’s top companies, including GCA Altium, Twilio and GP Bullhound who view the North of England as a tech leader that demonstrates the strength and depth of tech from the UK. San Francisco and Manchester have long had a connection with tech and this direct route from Manchester airport is our way of showing that the

Corner  –  World first digital boxing trainer - Mylo Kaye

Corner is the first complete boxing performance tracker. It comprises a complete Internet of Things (IoT) solution which uses unobtrusive wrist-worn sensors, fitting underneath the boxing gloves. Dreamr’s app design and development team worked closely with clients Athletec through each stage of this innovative and cutting-edge project. Historically, in order to understand the quality of their performance, combat athletes have had no alternative but to rely on expensive video playback, with many cameras required to provide an adequate assessment. The high cost and setup requirements have meant that this technology has been far out-of-reach for the vast majority of gyms and athletes. Coach driven assessment to remember accurately every detail of a session is both unrealistic and ultimately imprecise. The English Institute of Sport reports coaches and athletes only recall 30% of performance correctly. In the sporting world where even tiny incremental nuances in performance can mean the difference between winning and losing, Corner has been designed to revolutionise this process. An onboard microprocessor determines key statistics from every punch thrown by a boxer, whether it be jab or a strong right hook, and delivers the feedback via Bluetooth to a smartphone app for both display and storage over time.

Four day week and why you should adopt it

Four day week, is it productive? Four day week, what is it? When I started out in business a few years ago, I wanted teams of people working as much as possible to get more done. Unfourtnetly you can only get so much out of one person, never mind my 13 staff. Henry Ford first proposed the idea of a 8 hour day back in the 1900’s, his staff typically worked around 14 hours a day. He found, however that by working fewer hours, his staff were more focused and more productive. In 1926, Ford Motor company became one of the first businesses in the world to adopt a five-day, 40 hour week. Today, it’s the norm. An article in the New York Times times by CEO James Fried reported that his were more productive, healthier and motivated by working four days a week. With less time to work, there was less time to waste. They were more focused and determined at getting the job done. At Dreamr, my staff have extra long lunches, attend local events and on a Wednesday, they have dedicated time to learn new skills. They even use it to brush up on old ones or

Dreamr in Manchester at Digital Skills Festival

Dreamr in Manchester visits Skills Fest Every year my team spends countless days and weeks preparing for the Digital Skills Festival Talent Day. Last year they created a huge box structure from cardboard boxes, stuck our faces to it and massive words; ‘Think Outside the Box”. It attracted lots of attention from visitors, students and other companies exhibiting. It was totally different from every other stand there and made us look pretty damn cool. We’re there again this year and I would encourage all students who are attending to come say hi to our new display, to know what it is you have to come see us. Dreamr Eventbrite link.

Happy holidays: a message from Dreamr Head of Digital Mylo Kaye

We all spend the holidays in a different way, some of us have the family around a dining room table with lots of food and drink, others spend it somewhere sunny, others, whether we like it or not spend it alone. However we like to spend our holidays, it’s always a great time to reflect. What did we do, what did we achieve? How can I do things better or differently this year?
